My career began in 2000 when I moved to London to work in education publishing. I studied at the Publishing Training Centre and cut my editorial teeth dealing with complex, technical, multi-authored material for the University of Roehampton.
A couple of years later, I moved to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and developed my skills working on a huge range of government publications including information campaigns, parliamentary papers and books. Before long, I was travelling to British Embassies around the world, advising diplomatic staff on editorial best practice.
I loved my job, but when children came along I returned to my home county of Shropshire to be near family. In 2012, I began working as a freelance editor and successfully applied to become a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).
These days, I work with complete beginners and self-publishing authors through to established writers and independent publishers. I specialise in editing fiction and memoirs – everyone has a story to tell.
‘It was a pleasure to work with Nicola. She combines a professional attitude with a personal touch. Her copy editing showed understanding and perception and her proof reading was amazingly accurate. Now I have a novel of which I can be proud.’
